Six Sigma DMAIC Overview

One strategic objective of any organization is the continual improvement of its processes in order to gain competitive advantage, enhance its performance, and benefit interested parties such as customers, employees, and shareholders.

DMAIC (DEFINE, MEASURE, ANALYZE, IMPROVE, CONTROL) is the Six Sigma methodology and focuses on significant process improvement. With strategic goals in mind, an executive team identifies areas/processes on which to focus. An improvement project is then initiated.

Through a rigorous methodology, a project team determines customer needs (DEFINE), and gathers information on the current (as-is) process performance (MEASURE), which leads to the identification of issues and problems.

In ANALYZE, root causes are identified and confirmed with data. The development and implementation of solutions (IMPROVE) are followed by actions to ensure that the improved process is standardized and gains are maintained. DMAIC is supported by quality tools and advanced statistical tools, which facilitate fact-based decision making.

An iSixSigma report showed that an average DMAIC project saves $188,000 in "hard benefits."

Whether you need consulting on the application of DMAIC to specific situations, or training in the proper use of the methodology, turn to STAT-A-MATRIX. Our experienced Master Black Belts can help your organization:
